Lovely area, good access to town, very walkable. Room was good 4/5, with a few minor problems. The bathroom sink is only about 3 inches deep. Really stupid choice, difficult to wash hands or even fill a water glass.

The staff was very accommodating. There was a smell in our first room, and they gladly found us another room on property. We were there with older parents, and the hotel offered a wheelchair when a handicap room was not available. This helped with the distance to the room Great coffee bar in the lobby. The staff on the phone was also helpful each time I called or emailed. Many nice things to walk to on the riverwalk.

I recently stayed at Hotel Ballast, and while there were some positives, I left feeling disappointed overall. The good: The staff were incredibly kind, respectful, and helpful. Our check-in process was smooth, and they kindly allowed us to check in early, which was much appreciated. The bed itself was comfortable, and the hotel has a nice atmosphere. The not-so-good: Unfortunately, the cleanliness and attention to detail in the room were not up to par for a hotel of this caliber. Upon entering, we noticed dry blood stains on the bed sheets, which was very unsettling. When we called the front desk, the staff were understanding but couldn’t switch our room since the hotel was fully booked. Housekeeping replaced the sheets, but the “new” ones also had pen stains. For the price we paid, I expected clean, unstained linens. Additionally, the toilet in our room had visible brown stains around the rim, which was another disappointing detail that detracted from the experience. Overall, the staff’s kindness and efforts made the stay bearable, but I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. Cleanliness and attention to detail are crucial, especially for a hotel that markets itself as high-end.

Nice hotel right next to the Wilmington River Walk. We were there during the Marine Corps birthday celebration and enjoyed seeing the Marines in their dress uniforms. We would have liked to have spent more time in the pretty outdoor area but there was already a large group celebrating in that area. Will definitely return for another weekend.

Total Failure

We didn't expect to haul our own luggage to the 5th floor in a Luxury Hotel. Parking lot was behind the hotel and creepy on night of arrival. Our bathroom smelled of urine and the sink didn't drain. Night time housekeeping got rid of the smell but couldn't fix sink. Late supper in hotel restaurant was fair at best. Hilton wouldn't adjust our rates because of third party reservation. They gave us free parking and a restaurant coupon instead. Second day the sink was fixed but the smell was back as was the cleaning crew. Management was supposed to call and address these issues with us but never did. Nighttime assistant manager offered us a free night to give them a chance to make it up to us, but haven't received it yet. Breakfast was good though.

Room floor was dirty and the bathroom fixtures had alot of dust. Hair dryer was sticky. The two drinking glasses were dirty with previous user's lip imprints. Had to hold down toilet handle to flush. Toilet seat had some type of residue that required cleaning. Interior door knob of bathroom came off when simply turning it to close. The space between the sink faucet and sink basin was so narrow you couldn't fit hands under faucet for proper hand washing. Also couldn't get a water bottle under faucet to refill. Hot water in shower randomly became scalding hot. Waited 40 minutes for our dinner in the restaurant for a burger and shrimp tacos even though we were one of only two tables. The other table only got an app and dessert. People at bar were complaining that no one was at bar to tend, saying, "Doesn't anybody work here?" We only saw one waitress who was also bartending for the whole restaurant. Breakfast service was much better. Server was very kind and pleasant and so was the hostess. Sadly, the French toast was overcooked and burnt on the edges. We prepaid for a buffet breakfast but we find out only the buffet was available on the weekend. 20% gratuity automatically charged for meals. We had very high expectations but we're greatly disappointed. We are current and former professionals in the hospitality industry - travel agent and chef with 33 years experience. No shuttle for local theatrical venue. Walked 5 blocks to and from venue.

Very disappointing

Very disappointed in this hotel. Didn’t match pictures online. Paid for room with “historic” view, picture below of actual view much different. Room was in need of maintenance. Bathroom shower time Very old and windows need to be replaced. Bartender extremely rude. Asked for cups of ice with a large purchase of other things, told there are ice machines on the floor. If it’s not working call for maintenance. Expected a lot more from this property. Many other better choices in the area.

Top notch minus one thing

Lovely hotel, wonderful view. One issue-no refrigerator or microwave in the room. If you are staying for multiple days, it would be quite inconvenient. Otherwise, nice clean room, great beds.
