There are 2 Occidental hotels in the hotel zone. One has a beach where you can walk for miles and has crashing waves to play in. The other one has 50 feet of beach, is land locked, has a view of a shipping lane, has 2.5 feet of calm water roped off so you can’t venture too far into the shipping lane. If you book the wrong one, too bad, too sad. To be fair if you don’t like to walk or swim this hotel is fine. They have very nice employees, but the employees are helpless to help you change your reservation to the other hotel. I was prepared to pay for the other hotel and still couldn’t get help. You are not allowed to actually talk to a person who could help you, you must email them, and then wait for the non-existing response. They got your money, the share holders are happy, so who cares.

I booked a room with a queen size bed but was given two separate double beds. It was very uncomfortable to sleep because of my height. The location was close to the downtown, city, Isla de Mujeres, shopping, restaurants, clubs and entertainment. The front desk staff was not welcoming and disinterested. The entire staff in the restaurants l, bars, entertainment and grounds were exceptional and very professional. The beach water was not the typical clear and blue Caribbean color. It was dark. The beach access was very small and rocky. The tv resolution was 720p and not 1080p or HD. The small refrigerator didn't keep the items inside cold. The beds where hard and firm. The alcoholic beverages were watered down. No brand liquor. The food in the buffet was not really hot and there wasn't many choices. The room was outdated. The towels felt not soft. The bathroom sink water took long to become warm and hot. Overall I was disappointed with my stay, specifically the food, drinks, beach and room.

This place really felt like a blessing the staff really was attentive and so kind. We had a bit of a mix up on my end and they took care of us swiftly and they DID NOT have to it was my mistake but God is good and they were in his will. Customer service is always the major factor for me. Paulina in activities fixed my best friends bracelet out of the kindness in her heart. Stephanie in the Italian restaurant was soooo sweet and really paid attention to us. The Italian and Seafood restaurant were the best the Mexican was average. The buffet is either a hit or miss, they even ask you what your allergies are which is very considerate. Our room was always kept clean and the amenities were amazing. The beach is small and quaint but for me it was just what we needed on our getaway not too crowded and didn’t have to reserve a chair like others mentioned it was an off season so maybe in the summer. They always have events every night so try to get a room on a higher floor if noise bothers you ,however festivities usually end around 10 PM which is more than reasonable. There was activities for kids daily as well so it really is family oriented so I may bring my son back here. I honestly had the best time for my first time visiting Cancún and I would come back to this resort because they exceeded expectations. Thank you Occidental Staff for being so helpful and kind you will see us again.

Older property not maintained well. Main door on my room had a huge gap allowing hot air and humidity to enter and keeping my A/C running longer than needed creating a muggy moist feeling. Bathroom is outdated. Plug next to bed was empty, my charger did not work and had to plug next to TV. Overall great people but badly maintained property.

Wonderful relaxing vacation from the moment I arrived. At the front desk, friendly faces welcoming a solo traveler & very helpful. Dining room service, at the pool service & bar service was wonderful. Dont forget to TIP YOUR SERVERS. Clean rooms great air conditioning, great balcony views.
