Our stay at Hotel Tuequesa in Cancun, Mexico, was a disappointing experience overall, despite the friendly and attentive staff. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, with hard, lumpy mattresses and flat, unsupportive pillows, making it impossible to get a restful night’s sleep. The jacuzzi tub in our room was another letdown—it was old, chipped, and barely functional, with weak jets and an unhygienic appearance. Dining was underwhelming, with no buffet and a limited à la carte menu that lacked variety and flavor, especially for a destination celebrated for its cuisine. An unexpected issue was the presence of cats near the front gate of the property, which the staff feed with tuna cans. While the cats didn’t wander into dining or guest areas, their presence might be off-putting to some. Accessibility was also a significant concern: the hotel’s elevators were out of service, creating challenges for guests with heavy luggage or mobility issues, and the steep, uneven driveway made navigating the property difficult, particularly for older visitors. While the staff were kind and eager to assist, their efforts couldn’t compensate for the hotel’s many shortcomings. Until improvements are made, we would likely not return to this specific one within the future. Overall, a nice stay but beds could have changed a lot of aspects for our trip.

- Really poor maintenance hotel. - Main entrance pavers with holes and uneven. - Entrance full of cats - Holes in the ceiling and walls. - Sliding doors hardly open. - Locked windows. - Inoperable Elevator. Need to take a two floor spiral staircase with the luggage. - Inoperable and dirty Jacuzzi. - Disgusting and dirty showers with mold. Need to take shower with sandals. - Hot water limited . Every single day we ended taking cold showers. - Uncomfortable mattress and hard pillows . - One remote control for both rooms splitters. - Outlets with no plates and electrical cables hanging representing a hazard. - Limited kitchenette: no microwave, dirty Refrigerator with mold. We had taken a red eye. We arrived at 9:30am and were given a room, which we were grateful for! The Diamante (Diamond) garden view room was about 40 steps to the pool and then stairs to the ocean. The people were friendly. The beach was a bit choppy, but we jumped the waves. We felt safe walking to Soriana at 10 pm. We loved all the kitties, too-no bugs etc.

Property needs maintenance

The property is in need of basic maintenance. The driveway is crumbling, the tennis court is ridiculous. The inital room we were assigned should not even be used for guests as it has no view and junk behind the patio door which is the access to the pool/beach. There was sand and insects on the furniture. Basic cleaning isn't being done here. We left early but got a refund for the remaining days.

Stay away. Avoid at all cost. Only becaus of cost location, you may fall prey to this hotel. Unfortunately, I booked 5 nights stay and left in 1. ISSUES (Also shared with front desk and you will find in this and all other reviews of this hotel): - Old and rusted, cheap and bad infra. - With family, not even a chance to stay. - only because of location, god knows why the owner is not upgrading it. - Found ants in room, bed, table. - Bathtub in balcony was broken, rusted and useless. - Faced water problem in morning, our day tour plan ruined because of that. - Obscene and naked photos (large and huge) are in the lobby, including the statues and few scary ones as well. - There is this negative vibe as soon as you enter. - Now I know why its usually empty. Read in comments and witnessed, you will barely find a couple of guest, I bet not staying for more than a day or 2. Suggestion: If you want a cost effective hotel, go for Residence Inn by Marriott at the south end of hotel zone. Using taxi (uber / didi) is worth it to reach any place in hotel zone. Experience: Do not book for more than 1 night even if you plan to take a chance. I bet it will be available if you like and plan to extend. I had to pay penalty of 1 night charge extra for cancellations (even after their problems of water and dirt) Recommendation: Not at all recommended.

I recently stayed at [Hotel Name], and unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience. The building itself felt extremely old and in dire need of maintenance. The first impression was disappointing, with peeling paint, creaky floors, and outdated décor that looked like it hadn't been updated in decades. The room I was assigned had a musty smell, and the furniture was worn out and uncomfortable. The bathroom was no better, with chipped tiles and a shower that barely worked. It was difficult to get a good night’s sleep due to the thin walls and the noise from the street outside. It seemed like no effort was made to maintain the basic facilities, and it was evident that the hotel hadn’t been properly cared for in years. The staff were polite but not very helpful in addressing the issues. When I mentioned my concerns, there was no effort to resolve them or even offer an alternative solution. The hidden fees left me feeling incredibly frustrated and misled. When I booked my stay, the price seemed reasonable, but once I checked in, I was hit with unexpected additional charges that I had no prior knowledge of. that wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the booking process. Then, To make matters worse, the hotel staff didn’t seem apologetic or willing to explain why these fees were necessary. I felt taken advantage of, and it really detracted from the overall experience. I understand that some hotels charge extra fees, but the lack of transparency at this hotel was completely unaccep

Not for everybody, but we would stay again

If you are looking for an ultimately predictable and in some ways rather bland experience like you would expect to get from Marriott or Hilton (not that I’m knocking these at all), then you probably won’t be choosing this hotel. The hotel is maybe best compared to an affluent older lady with a glamorous past who enjoys the nice things in life. Based our my room and all the others I saw, the rooms are very generous, have wonderful balconies, have bathrooms with separated toilet/bath/shower, have dressing rooms, have beautiful artwork, have fridges, have classic grand furniture, have huge beds, have wonderful views out over the pool and out to sea. I’m sure there is lots more I have missed. However, with this comes aspects that are no longer quite so fresh. It also doesn’t have quite the consistency of the big brands. For example, the drive has some lose stones, you need to ask if you want an iron and parts of the facade would benefit from some maintenance. If you aren’t put off, you also get to see the owners beautiful and extensive artwork and sculptures. Would I return… absolutely… 100%… the potential criticisms are easily offset by the benefits. Loved it. Of all the criticisms that I read in advance, I do agree that the mattress is very firm… It isn’t like sleeping on a rock as someone suggested, but it’s definitely firm… but not a problem in my view

Although the hotel needed some upgrades, it was very beautiful with a lot of special touches. The staff were amazing. They were super friendly and helpful. And quickly became our friends. it felt like we were visiting friends in their large mansion. It was really nice to be right on the ocean. The restaurant and pool was great too.

The worst stay experience ever in hotel zone area. The facility was outdated, with old pictures along with non family friendly statue of women. The room was clean and big. Unfortunately the back sliding door to did not lock, A/C had smell mold when turned on, toilet flooded, shower door did not block water from everywhere. The walk way to rest of bathroom was wet afterwards.The sunken in jacuzzi tub did not work inside room nor the tub outside in patio. Even worse, I paid in advance for one night stay. When I attempted to check out from the facility, they tried to overcharge me for four night stay. Had to get Expedia representative to step in to help, even after I showed my receipt. Not a place to recommend but to avoid at all cost.

The property has a very extreme MOLD problem. Mold is dangerous to both healthy and unhealthy people. I would def avoid. You can see it was once a nice place. Now it is run down and in need of a major renovation.
