Los Angeles International Airport
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the primary airport handling air services for the city. It is located about 16 miles from the center of Los Angeles and is usually reached by taxi. The trip takes about 30 minutes and costs approximately $46.50. There also is parking at the airport for $12 daily. Hawaii's Kona District
Kona is a district on the western shore of the Big Island. In the Hawaiian language, Kona can mean calm, and that best describes this travel destination. The beauty of the land and the water has a calming effect on visitors. There are plenty of places where a visitor can simply sit back and relax, resting between the water and the volcanic mountains that bracket the region.
A Bit about Kona
Flying into Kona International Airport, you will arrive about 7 miles from the center of the business district in Kailua-Kona. Travel from the airport to the town is done by taxi, city bus or hotel shuttle service (if offered by your reserved hotel). Taxis will cost you about $25 and take 15 minutes to make the trip. A city bus takes a bit longer to make the trip for the cost of $1.
Most visitors make the trip to Kona between November and March, when the area is least affected by the prevailing ocean winds. The weather in Kona during that time tends to average in the mid 80s Fahrenheit, dropping to the 60s and 70s during the evenings. This allows visitors to dress lightly, with little more than a light jacket required for cooler evenings.
Kona is a wonderful location when you want to relax. The beaches are beautiful, with towering palms and calm waters. If relaxation isn't what you're looking for, then you can snorkel at night with manta rays, whale watch or surf. Kona is also the home of the annual Ironman World's Championship Triathlon, which you can catch if you make the trip during the month of October.
