Flights to Washington, D.C., depart from Los Angeles International Airport. The airport is commonly known as LAX and is located 16 miles from downtown LA. Nine airlines provide flights from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., including AirTran Airways, US Airways, American Airlines and Virgin America.
The airport has numerous parking options available for passengers who need to park their cars at the airport while they travel. The Central Terminal area consists of eight parking garages that charge $30 per day. Economy Lot C charges $12 per day. Alternatively, you can take the Green Line train, a public bus, the LAX FlyAway Bus or a taxi to the airport. Cab fare from downtown to the airport costs about $46. You can board the LAX FlyAway bus downtown at Union Station and travel to the airport for $7. To get to the airport by train, take the Green Line to the Metro Green Line Aviation Station, and then take the G Shuttle to the airport. Buses stop at the Metro Bus Center. From there, you can take the C Shuttle to the airport.
If you want to grab a bite to eat before you board your plane, the airport has numerous dining options available. You'll find hot dogs at Pink's Hot Dogs, sushi at Sushi Boy, sandwiches at City Deli and Mexican food at El Paseo.

Located along the banks of the Potomac River, Washington, D.C., was founded in 1791. As the capital of the United States, the city is home to the White House, the Capitol Building and the Pentagon. Three airports service the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area: Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport and Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). All three airports are located within 32 miles of the city center. Passengers arriving at Reagan National Airport can take the Metrorail from the airport to any location in the city. Metrorail fares are between $1.70 and $5.75, depending on your destination and the time you travel. Cab fare from the airport into the city costs between $12 and $23, plus an airport surcharge of $2.50. If your flight arrives at Dulles, you can take the Washington Flyer Coach service to the West Falls Church Metro Stop for $10. From there, you can take the Metrorail to other areas of the city. Cab fare from the airport into the city costs between $56 and $64. Passengers arriving at BWI can take Express Metro Bus #B30 to the Greenbelt Metro Station. From there, you can catch a train to your final destination. Tickets cost $6 per person. Taxicabs from BWI run on meters, and rates are $2.90 for the first .10 of a mile and $2.50 for each additional mile, plus any toll charges.
