It is an amazing hotel but they are very understaffed. No dining except for the weekend and then limited. No room service. Couldn't even get a coke in the middle of the day.
Beautiful property, very elegant yet relaxed. The staff was very friendly and eager to help. They were very accommodating to allow our family of five to stay in one room by upgrading us to a larger room for a minimal fee. The gym was amazing and yet felt clean and safe (COVID wise). Free parking and very convenient two restaurants and shopping in a more upscale part of Berkeley. Would love to stay there again.
Iconic Fairmont property in the Berkeley hills, wonderful views looking west, could use a little updating in certain common areas to be at the level it aspires to be.
Wow! Great, elegant, tasteful, yet artfully modern remodel of this grand classic hotel. The bar is hip and bustling, and dinner was truly exceptional, (and we are spoiled foodies!). Our room (facing the tennis courts) had a spectacular panoramic view, including downtown San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Staff were terrific - all charming and professional. All around A plus experience!
We've stayed at the Claremont often over the years and love the historical feel and tie to the UC Berkeley community. Since Fairmont purchased the property, it has seen a dramatic freshening of its appearance. However, it still needs some attention: the AC in one room was very noisy and kept its occupant awake, and the mattress and pillows in the other room were very soft.
The Claremont is my favorite hotel in the US. It combines luxury accommodations, a beautiful & unique spa, two olympic size outdoor swimming pools in the lush Berkeley hills, an incredible helpful and genuinely happy staff. It is, of course, only minutes from downtown Berkeley with all its world renown museums, eateries and other rich cultural attractions. My parents honeymooned at The Claremont in 1945 and i've been going there (almost0 every since!
