Traveling from San Diego to Seattle
A trip from San Diego to Seattle doesn't require any time zone crossings. It does, however, entail some time in two large hubs on the West Coast. Whether your trip is for business or pleasure, there are several things you can do to stay occupied during the flight and when you reach Seattle. Orbitz.com can help business travelers take a little time to explore some of the natural and cultural attractions Seattle has to offer.
Flying from San Diego
Getting tickets for your flight from San Diego is easy. The airport for commercial flights is San Diego International Airport. Located two miles west of downtown San Diego, the airport offers flights from about 59 airlines. More than 5,000 flights go through the airport each week, providing plenty of opportunities for your trip to Seattle. For the best bargains on tickets, book your flight in advance on Orbitz.com.
Getting to the airport also a breeze with a little planning. The city of San Diego has a public transit system that includes the airport. The Route 992 bus will take you to Terminals One and Two. It runs on a 15-minute schedule and costs only $2.25. A taxi will cost about $10, depending on the cab company. Taking your own car to the airport is also an option. Parking in the general lot will cost you up to $28 per day. Valet parking is also available for $36 per day.
Once you make it to the terminal, take a little time to get something to eat or occupy yourself during the flight. You can find bookstores, newspaper stands, candy shops and gadget stores in all three terminals. From Baja Books to See's Candies, you can find what you need at San Diego International. The restaurant offerings are also diverse. Find everything from Starbucks to Baja Fresh and California Pizza Kitchen, in addition to the bars, lounges and ethnic food offerings.
Destination Seattle
Commercial flights into Seattle end up at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, also known as SeaTac. The airport is located between Seattle and Tacoma, so you have a choice of cities when looking for things to do. If you're traveling for pleasure, there are several attractions close by to help you become acquainted with Seattle.
Getting the Trip Started
Don't be surprised to find that the SeaTac is larger than San Diego International. The airport complex is nestled in a neighborhood 10 miles south of Seattle's downtown area and north of Tacoma. Smaller passenger flights may end up at King County International or Boeing Field, a very small hub closer to Seattle. Chances are that the flight you booked on Orbitz.com will land at SeaTac, however. The airport handles more than 10,000 flights from over 63 airlines. Such a selection will yield better bargains on air tickets.
Getting from the airport to downtown Seattle is easy with the city's extensive public transit system and abundance of taxis. King County Metro Transit has routes designated for the airport. The fare is only $2.75 per ride. The taxi rate for a trip from SeaTac to downtown Seattle is $32-a flat rate. The best bargain is the hotel shuttle. Book early and reserve a ride from the airport to your hotel. Most hotels will do so at no charge.
More than 400 major attractions await you in the Seattle area. See the city from above and get a taste of the area's natural beauty at Kerry Park. Shop your heart out at Pike Place Market. (Just don't forget to pick up some souvenirs.) Get a history lesson at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and leave time to visit the famous Space Needle. These are just a few activities the city has to offer. The best time to visit is in the fall, when temperatures average a warm 70 degrees Fahrenheit, but they can occasionally dip into the low 40s. The rainy Washington weather is still infrequent, but increases as winter approaches.
