It's a touristy spot, so that comes with certain downsides. However, on top of that, I've experienced a number of issues: - they charged us a sizable extra occupancy fee for a 5 year old; the kid wasn't in the booking, but the check-in person was very adamant about him being added. This is, in part, reasonable, since they have "free breakfast", except... - the free breakfast line was insanely long, enough so that I refused to wait in it, and they were very strict about how many people were in the reservation, which the check-in person hasn't actually updated for me, so while they charged the extra for the kid, one of us technically still didn't have free breakfast; you also had to have everybody in the reservation check in for the breakfast at the same time, otherwise only the first batch could get in. This is all likely in a legal gray area (they are charging for a service they know to not have adequate facilities for). - a manager at check-out ended up waiving the extra charge after I pointed out the issues, but not without some nonsense ("all hotels charge occupancy per person" - not true, many charge for the room with only fire-code limits) and various attempts at offending me ("you don't seem to understand that 3 people were allowed for breakfast" - no, their system was telling the breakfast people that only 2 people were allowed). - there is little soundproofing compared to other hotels in the same prince range. Anyway, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Riu is in the middle of everything. Walking distance to all the attractions and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay.!Wish we could have stayed longer. When ever I come to San Francisco I never want to leave. I will be coming back!

The location can’t be beat. Right by the water but far enough away that we didn’t hear the crowds. The breakfast buffet was top notch and the staff were very polite and helpful. They were able to hold our bogs until checkin time so we could enjoy our day without having to wait for check in time!

Location is ideal. Right near the popular piers, everything within walking distance. Superb buffet breakfast but be prepared to queue for a couple of minutes during peak times. Personally I didn’t like the fact we could not open our window and could only rely on the aircon.! Three nights was plenty feeling like a caged tiger. Bathroom small and cramped with shower over the bath. Shower pressure was ok. Shampoo but no conditioner. Coffee machine but only 3 coffee sachets and limited creamers. The area felt very safe and down on the flat. Handy grab and go downstairs was open until 10pm. The whole building felt modern and clean

The hotel was very close to Pier 39 and a close walk to the Alcatraz attraction. There was plenty of under ground parking but I thought $60/night was pretty steep. The breakfast buffet was a pleasant surprise and very busy in the morning even when I went early (around 7:30) as it was suggested by the staff member that checked me in.

We stayed at the Riu for part of our honeymoon. The location is great in Fisherman’s Wharf. Close proximity to restaurants, piers and cable cars. I don’t think the hotel was worth the cost of $1,000 CAD for two nights. It was a tad run down, no hot tub, no robes, no water as you enter, no balcony, small shower and bathroom. we were on the main floor which was loud and no view.
