Overview

Black Hills Open-Top-Tours is the only tour company offering Bison Safari Tours that also includes watching the sun set over the Hills and then crystal clear night stargazing with little ambient light.

Tour includes fees, bottled water, light snacks, and your choice of hot beverages: coffee, tea or hot cocoa. (You may bring your own food and beverage.)

Depending on the weather, we tour in our Mercedes Glass-Top Sprinter van (10+ seats) or our 4x4 Jeep Gladiator (3+ seats) Both are comfortable and safe Safari vehicles. They offer great elevated views and photo ops without needing to exit. Both vechiles offer sliding convertible tops for viewing in any weather conditon.

In order to view the sunset, this 5+ hour tour departs between 11:30am and 12:00pm and returns between 5:00pm and 5:30pm.

We pick you up at your Rapid City hotel and drive to Custer State Park (the largest State Park in the US). We stop at State Game Lodge which was the Summer White House of President Coolidge and a favorite of President Eisenhower.
Custer State Park Visitor Center

We make stop at the Park Visitor Center, which has information about the bison and history of the Park. And we watch a great movie about the 110 spaure mile park narrated by Kevin Costner.
Wildlife Loop Road

The Wildlfie Loop Road travels through Custer State Park. During the ride you can witness all kinds of wildlife . . . bison, burros, white tail and mule deer, antelope, cayotes, prairie dogs and more.
Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway

A masterpiece of artistic engineering, this byway includes spiraling bridges, hairpin curves, granite tunnels and awe-inspiring views. No wonder it was named one of the 10 Most Outstanding Byways in America. At its peak is Norbeck Overlook. The overlook takes you to great views of Mount Rushmore, Black Elk Peak and and its a great platform to view the setting sun and pause for stargazing . . . multitude of stars, constellations, and even galaxies.
Iron Mountain Road
