Fly to Grantley Adams International Airport
Like many other Caribbean island nations, Barbados offers a warm, friendly atmosphere alongside sandy beaches and excellent nightlife. You will fly to Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) in Seawell. From there, you're only about 11 miles away from the UNESCO Heritage capital city of Bridgetown.
Most of Barbados' obvious attractions are located in about a 3-mile radius of the Bridgetown city center. For instance, the George Washington House, a home in which America's first president resided in 1751, is located downtown next to the captivating Barbados Museum, which was an old prison from the early 1800s.
North of the city center, you'll find National Heroes Square and the nearby neo-Gothic Parliament buildings.
If you're looking for beaches, then you also don't have to look too hard. The gorgeous Pebbles Beach is about 10 minutes from the city center. Near there is the Harbour Lights Nightclub where you can dance and get a fairly-priced drink for what seems like an eternity.
Many hotels are located in the downtown area to accommodate tourists.
Hints and Tips
Car rentals are popular and ideal in Barbados as they give you a chance to explore other parts of the island like the Barbados Wildlife Reserve or some of the beaches on the east shore (including Bathsheba Beach).
Swimming can be difficult on these eastern beaches because of high waves and rocky protrusions, but the sight of the untouched sand and waves is certainly spectacular.
