Fly to Ashgabat
You could almost fly to Ashgabat International Airport (ASB) purely for the sake of viewing the airport itself. A work of art in its own right, the terminal building looks like a giant, futuristic white dove, with 14 gates arranged in a semicircle around its tail, and a large, circular parking lot at the tip of the bird's beak. Shoppers fly to Ashgabat to visit the Altyn Asyr bazaar, which hosts more than 2,000 shops over its vast 154 hectares.
Attractions
Among the more conventional attractions are the Ashgabat National Museum of History and the Turkmen Carpet Museum. Altyn Depe is a Bronze Age site inhabited in the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC and abandoned in 1600 B.C. It is most notable for its proto-Zoroastrian ziggurat and its models of two-wheeled carts dating back to 3000 BC, the earliest intact evidence of wheeled transport.
