Quaint old hotel in the heart of Shrewsbury
This is a very old building, with creaky floors and slightly worn carpets - but it is very clean. My room was large, perhaps a little old fashioned, but was clean and comfortable. The windows had internal double glazing to keep out the noise and blackout curtains the light. The bathroom was clean and there were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe. The breakfast served was amazing with fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, fresh toast (you make it yourself) and a good full english on offer. The location is perfect for exploring Shrewsbury and all the staff I encountered were friendly. Only downside - there was no bar open in the evening which would have been nice for a nightcap.

Atmospheric old building - OK for overnight stay, right in the historic centre of Shrewsbury. Cooked breakfast is included but nothing to write home about - bacon, egg and tomato all very poor.

A lovely old building, magnificent in its heyday, but now needs some TLC. While room was basic tables were scuffed and chair had seen better days. Breakfast was good.

Hotel very shabby and run down. Our room had rusty dirty windows with broken glass they wouldnt close, so we had a lot of outside noise. We could hear every sound from the rooms around us, talking, moving, bathrooms. The was a dog yapping in a room nearby and owners loud shutting itup. Small double bed, 2 old bedside tables and one table with waste bin. No info like wifi, nothing. Broken tiles in bathroom, yellowed floor covering. Worn carpets. Its all.just old and worn out. The most worn, unappealing hotel/b&b ever stayed in.

Great to have reasonable value parking close the town centre. The Lion has some character, but needs some more care, nonetheless excellent value for money.

Building very old, could do with updating. The stair carpets are worn, windows need updating and painting. Bathroom in room 107 needs renovating. There was an unpleasant odour in the corridor towards room 107. Breakfast and breakfast staff excellent.

A rather historic building with it's charm and character unfortunately it's looking rather tired in places and could use some serious updating and repairing, based on the cost of the room it was a very reasonable trip and the arrangements for breakfast were very well organised

Had a great 3 night stay here. Hotel is 10 min walk from station and central for shops, bars and restaurants. Staff are lovely - very helpful. I had a quiet and comfortable single room at the back of the hotel - good size for a single and a bath tub is always welcome. Breakfast (included in the price) was great: fresh fruit salad and yogurts, plenty of cereals and pastries and a delicious hot breakfast cooked to order. Would recommend this hotel and hope to stay again.

The hotel is in a great location close to shops, bars and restaurants. It has on site parking which is a great bonus for a town center location. The building is very old and has many period features. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable the furniture was old fashioned and in keeping with the age of the property. The breakfast which was included in the price was very good with plenty of options including fruit and cereal, pastries and toast, full English, tea coffee and juices. I also noted that gluten free options were available. Now the downsides - the circulation spaces are very tired and in desperate need of refurbishment the carpets are worn and there is a musty smell that comes with age. There are a lot of stairs so the property would not be suitable for less mobile or wheelchair guests. The restaurant and bar are currently closed but apparently the owner is working towards reopening them. I would definitely stay again as the price I paid offered good value for money and I don’t expect properties of this age to be perfect.
