We called the front desk before driving out to San Simeon from San Diego to inquire on Tesla charging. My wife and I on speaker were told there were multiple free chargers at the hotel. It was a big surprise when we limped in to the hotel to be told there are none. You can supercharge in Paso Robles but that is 80 miles round trip. It is disappointing that a hotel this size doesn't provide at least paid charging on site. I always ask for top level on the oceanfront rooms but always get a stupid excuse for why they can't provide me one. Stayed at the hotel multiple times but probably our last. Front desk guy was not that helpful and I had to go back and request a second key. Positives - Employees are super friendly. The grounds are beautiful and fun. Even the hotel guest are nice. No fee for dogs is a really big plus!

Spend the Holidays at the Coast

The week was very nice. We had beautiful weather. Spend the evening sitting by fire pit, you can see the stars at night. Several walking trails to the beaches, and pet friendly place. Love watching the beautiful sunsets. A nice resturant on the premise, food is decent. Place is clean. Definitely coming back in the near future! 5 Stars!

What a total and complete rip off! This place was almost a thousand dollars for two nights and claims to be a "resort." Let me tell you, Motel 6 is a higher quality establishment with MUCH more up to date rooms and even come equipped with a wall AC unit. I'm not going to even mention one thing that I may have found to be redeeming about this property as the owner will only respond with a message saying, "Well I'm glad you found x acceptable, but we will strive to do better with y." Yeah, I'm so sure. I should have read the reviews on that big company that starts with a Y before booking on Expedia. So the room looks like one of the set pieces from No Country for Old Men. You know the scene where Javier Bardem murders those two dudes? The owner used the same designer to make you feel like you're in an immersive experience where you might be tagged in the brain with a bolt pistol as if you are one of William Randolph Hearts' steer roaming the plains. There was immense calcium build up around the shower head, the wall paper is peeling off, rust coats the floor boards somehow, there is no AC (only a fan that will randomly turn off with the rest of the electricity in the middle of the night), the TV will never have a clear channel as the connection is damaged on the circa 2004 flat screen, there is no microwave but is a mini fridge filled with luke warm overpriced beverages and a drawer filled with awful snacks, and wood rot throughout the bathroom.

First, this is not a 'Resort'. At best, it is a motel with beach access. Of course, there are no proper resorts in the area, and this place is on par with all other motels. They are also pretty stingy about giving out basic stuff like water (after pricing the rooms $250 ). One water bottle under lock and key... probably took a lesson from the prison 50 miles south of the place. We enjoyed our stay "despite" the level of accommodation, not "because of" it. (Family, scenic drive, etc.) One positive is the restaurant, the food and the service are above average.

This is a low-key but incredible location hotel, with a great restaurant, off the beaten path. Walks on the beach, gazing at the ocean, reading a book, cozy in your room with a fireplace. Dog-friendly. Great restaurant on site so you don't need to leave. That's what you go here for.

The Day before I requested a room upstairs to have a better ocean view and this was not honored. By the time a checked in there were no second floor rooms. And the front desk knew I was coming back And last Sunday we had a power outage for 6 hours (was there on a separate reservation). No $$ discount given after it was promised

I paid extra to get an upgrade to a deluxe room. It was not my idea of deluxe. The carpet was worn and I concluded that it was dirty because when I stepped into the room, it smelled like somebody had just smoked pot. The smell was still there in the morning when I woke up and the window had been open all night. The hotel is old and dated, so it felt a little dirty. I am fine to stay a night in a hotel like that if I pay $79, but I paid $250 for one night. Not what I expected.

The restaurant has amazing food. We had dinner and breakfast, both food choices were tasty and portion were generous. The staff were attentive. We love how close it is to the ocean. We enjoyed the time sitting next to the fire pit while watching the waves. Unfortunately, the rooms definitely need some updating. People left half eaten beef jerky inside the free drawer and we saw a cockroach. :(

Best of San Simeon!

Cavalier never disappoints! The balcony ocean front rooms with fireplace and rocking chairs are a delight. We stay 3-4 times a year and love it just as much each time.
