Great for families

The rooms are wonderfully large, so my family of five was very comfortable. I don't like the wall paintings and door decor. The service was friendly but there were long lines at the reception desk and the restaurant service was not good: surly, slow, mixed up our orders and was expensive. Luckily there are good restaurants within walking distance. The valet was excellent. Overall was happy with the stay because it was so so easy to be there with the family.

We checked in at 11pm and were out by 8am. So we didn’t get to use any of the hotel amenities. But it was a nice place and clean and staff was friendly.

This hotel has a different vibe and is very convenient if you are visiting local venues and restaurants. The staff was great especially Reilly that worked in the restaurant.

Neat little historic property right next to the state capitol. Great experience , especially with the service. Front desk upgraded my room for free to a suite. Everyone was super friendly and hospitable. We were able to park for free at a meter (they gave us this info upon asking). The bar area could use a bit of an upgrade. The area around the hotel is a bit of a ghost town at least on the weekend but we found the central location to be good for sightseeing (we drove around). I recommend it.

Disappointing Stay - Beware of the View and More! I recently stayed at The Commonwealth in Richmond, VA, and was extremely disappointed with my experience. Upon checking into my room, I was shocked to find that the view from my window was directly facing a large industrial HVAC unit and a brick wall. It felt more like a storage room than a hotel room. I immediately called the front desk to request a room change, but I was told that because I booked through Expedia, this was the room I was assigned, and the only way to get a different room was to pay for an upgrade. This is completely unacceptable. There was no indication at the time of booking that this room had such an unpleasant view. Guests should be informed beforehand if a room has such a significant drawback so they can decide whether to book it, upgrade, or choose a different hotel altogether. It’s misleading and unfair to present this as a standard room without any warning. The issues didn’t end there. The water in the shower was hardly hot enough, and the walls are so thin that at 5 AM, we were woken up by a baby crying in the next room for about 15 minutes. I would recommend looking elsewhere or, at the very least, clarifying what room you’re getting before finalizing your booking. The lack of transparency and poor customer service at The Commonwealth left me very disappointed
