English Inn of Charlottesville
5/5 Excellent
"I like the [almost] over-the-top Olde English theme in this small hotel. The public space is well-appointed and comfortable. The rooms have both microwave and refrigerator, which made it convenient for me to buy a frozen dinner from the front desk when I checked in late and tired. There's a complimentary hot drink station in the lobby, and a water station nearby convenient for refilling your bottle. Staff were attentive, accommodating, and all-around lovely.
The ample lighting in the room is clearly superior to any other hotel I've stayed in for the past decade. Loved the comfy chair and ottoman, perfect for reading and laptopping.
Two items of disappointment:
1) No chair for the desk. Fortunately, the comfy chair suited my immediate needs. It's a strange lack for an otherwise well-appointed room
2) The ice machine was comically hard to find. Finally discovered it after wandering the corridor several times - it turned out to be an unmarked room with a door, different from the other room doors because the doorknob was missing. Relief cut short: the ice machine was out of service. At that point I wasn't willing to go to another floor, so I did without
I will stay here again when I'm in Charlottesville. Shall I ask for a room on a floor with a working ice machine? "
