I've stayed at dozens of in-terminal airport hotels around the world. I own a travel agency and I'm Accor Platinum. From the reviews, I expected this Sofitel to be mediocre at best but I was completely wrong. These days, hotels are often crowded, you're treated like a number, and things don't feel special. I booked a one-night stay during a difficult time in my life - after a very long trip. When I arrived, I was greeted by Ignatius - with a huge smile, some really sweet questions, and then a surprise. Even though I booked my stay through an agency, he honored my Platinum benefits without me even asking - including an upgrade, lounge access, and a full minibar, plus welcome drink. These are small, but really meaningful things. It made my week. This property is BEYOND lucky to have people like Ignatius. If anyone from management is reading this, please give him a promotion. I will never stay at another hotel at Heathrow again. Truly a majestic experience.

No airplane noise at all. Combined with a good bed and a dark room, that made for good sleep. Staff mostly very quietly spoken with strong London Indian accents, which takes some getting used to, but attentive and helpful. So many security doors where you either have to badge in or push a button, with no indication on the door itself. You can, though, authenticate with the restaurants to bill money to your room with nothing more than the room number - not the hotel’s liability, so they don’t care about that? Room key stopped working an hour early, like they’ve forgotten to adjust for daylight savings, a few weeks ago.

The stay was exceptional. My only concern is that I requested a couple of small items that were never brought. One of the items was a fork that I asked for at the front desk to eat the salad I purchased for dinner after a long flight... and also called room service after 30 minutes of waiting to be told someone would bring it up but never did. I ate my salad with my fingers.

Not a Sofitel….
Asked for a room away from elevators, was given one right next to them. Bed comfy. New linen and pillows. But STILL no power for charging next to beds. Main lights switches more or less inoperable. Checked in at 19:15 and told the lounge (which I paid more for obviously) closes at 20:00. Won’t do that again.

No one chooses to stay here. It's the one hotel at T5. It's "luxury", as it ticks exactly the 5 star boxes, but none more. It's an accountant's idea of a good hotel. The experience is reasonable: the king sized bed is comfortable. The rest, though... Decoration from the '70s. Staff from another planet. Annoying muzak everywhere. No restaurant open at 21:00. 21:00 at an airport! It feel stale and frumpy. Frale.
