Just like every Indian Tribe has it's own Shaman as the "mystical healer" so does New River Retreat have it's own special place to get away from the pressures and demands of life and let the healing powers of nature take shape.

This cabin is so close to the river that you could throw a line in off the porch! Enjoy breathtaking views from the porch or the hammock right next to water. In the evenings light up a fire and make some s'mores (firewood provided). This cozy get away is perfect as a romantic getaway or small family vacation. The water here is perfect for wading out and fishing or letting little ones play.

Stay a week and explore the New River Valley - you're only 12 minutes to access on the 55 mile scenic New River Trail (biking and hiking trail), 12 minutes to the Draper Village (restaurant, tea room, eclectic shopping, bike rentals, massage therapy, agritourism), 15 minutes to Foster Falls State Park (horseback riding, kayak/canoe access) and 25 minutes to Claytor Lake State Park (beach area, motorized boat rentals, hiking trails).

Property was fine. Will I stay again? No. Yard sell pots and pan and utiziles. Was not a level burner on the electric stove. No dishwasher. Just needs to be updated to make it more homey.

We enjoyed fishing in the river and grilling on the porch. The VHS tapes in the loft were nostalgic. It was a great place to stay, we definitely look forward to coming back. P.S. The residents in the nearby areas are super friendly and helpful.

AMAZING
This by far was one of the best places we've ever rented. If you're looking for some rest and relaxation and a spectacular river view, look no further. It had all the accommodations of home yet none of the responsibilities. We will absolutely rent here again and again!!! Bonus also there is Wi-Fi to connect to if you have to be connected.

Overall great!
Everything was fantastic here for a father-son getaway from check-in to check-out! There were only 2 things that I would have liked that weren’t there. First, a porch swing under the cabin would have been absolutely perfect. Second, the washout from the River made it a little treacherous to get to the river from the property. A bit of a drop off to the water. Neither were significant, but either or both would elevate this to an absolutely perfect spot from a fantastic cabin.

Perfect Small Family Getaway
I am actually from the New River Valley area and wanted a place to stay for the weekend that was close to my family. I was shocked to find this hidden gem so close to my hometown. We had our dog with us as well and this place was perfect for him! The closed-in porch railing was perfect to keep him safe while we were grilling yet still allowing him to see the birds and squirrels that he loves. We also love the river being right off the porch and wished we had our fishing poles! We come to town several times a year and will definitely book here again!

Awesome little spot!
A great little cabin we stayed. Clean, easy to get into and directions took us straight to it. Little to no cell phone service which for the most part was great! A landline for a true emergency wouldve been great but no deal breaker. Firepit had plenty of firewood but watch out during walnut season! We had to dodge a few falling off the tree! Lol.
