Fly to Clark Field CRK

Although it is located only about 50 miles northwest of Manila, the Clark International Airport doesn't technically serve the capital city of the Philippines. When you fly to Clark International Airport (CRK), you'll land in what's known as the "Clark Freeport Zone." This is a refurbished and redeveloped former American military base that is located in both Angeles and Mabalacat.

The Clark Freeport Zone has flourished since its days a military base. It is now composed of golf courses, casinos, and resorts of all kinds. You can even find a place to relax near the Sacobia River or take a peek at the Clark Museum to learn the history of the area. Come sometime in January or February and enjoy the Philippine International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta.

Of course, you can also explore the cities of Angeles and Mabalacat if you so choose. Angeles, the larger of the two, maintains historical and intricately designed architecture like the Holy Rosary Church, the Pamintuan Mansion, and the Museum of Angeles, housed in the old City Hall building.

Hints and Tips

Although the Clark Freeport Zone with its numerous golf courses and casinos might sound appealing, most tourists don't venture outside it. Angeles is commonly referred to as the poorer step-cousin of the more vibrant Manila. In fact, many people choose the Clark International Airport as a destination simply because it's cheaper to fly there and hop on a bus to Manila than it is to just fly straight to Manila.
