I'm a long-time Marriott fan. Given that this is a JW Marriott, I expected everything to be top-notch. The location, entrance, lobby, front-desk staff, food delivery staff, and firm bed with lovely linens were all great.
The surprises were in the things that didn't work. The finishing touches were missing at this beautiful hotel in a beautiful neighborhood steps from the White House.
I'm a silver elite Marriott member and my travel partner is gold elite. We were placed in a room on the first floor that was quite small. The window looked out on the interior courtyard and the massive hvac structures. There was no natural light. As other reviewers said, we had plans every day we were there so didn't request a different room. The noise from the next room was loud and sounded like the people were in our room even though they were speaking in normal voices. The closet door didn't close because the latch was broken. There was a very old worn-out ironing board. The "room service" food was delivered early or on time by stellar delivery folks but it was clearly microwaved commissary food. When I checked in, I asked to use my Marriott credit card with Apple Pay. My new card was on the way, and the Marriott in San Francisco let me use it with Apple Pay. I've had a Marriott credit card and been a loyalty program member for 20+ years, but the front desk manager refused to let me use it without showing the actual card.
Stay at this beautiful hotel but avoid the issues above if possible.
