I have stayed at several different all inclusive resorts in the DR (Royalton, Royalton Chic, Royal Catalonia, Riu). I would rate this one about average. The grounds were neat and well kept. The rooms were very large, up to date and nice to stay in. The AC was amazing! Overall the food was just average. Although I find this is the case at most all inclusives, I was disappointed we were not permitted to eat at the a la carte restaurants on the other side of the resort. We were on the adult only side, so we only had Japanese or the steakhouse or buffets. I was also disappointed the bars by the beach were not open in the evenings. It would have been nice to sit by the ocean to have some cocktails instead of the hot and humid lobby bar/piano bar or palapa bar. I know the resort cannot control the ocean, however I was disappointed in the water. The beach was large, beautiful and full of white sand and plenty of places to sun bathe. The water was full of sea grass and sea weed, so If you are looking for a the beautiful Carribbean blue water this is NOT the place for that. I was impressed that the resort had an app that allowed you to message them, see what activities were going on and make reservations for the restaurants. BUT they did not return messages, and the activities were not always up to date. We also had a very bad experience with a scuba trip set up by the resort. Lastly we had to have our room keys reprogrammed several times throughout our stay.
