While the property is beautiful and the staff is very helpful, I was surprised that the restaurants and bars were not open until lunch time. Breakfast options are limited to room service (1.5-2 hours wait) or a very small coffee shop with very limited food options and limited seating.

This property is aged and run down, poorly managed and overpriced. We showed up 15 minutes before check in and were told the room wasn't ready, wait for a text - no text ever came, and nearly an hour later I went back up to inquire again. They had a room ready but just never notified us. In the room the mini bar was locked shut; we were told this was due to a "system change over" and we could order all items to be sent to the room. It had been a really long day of travel and we were wanting just a couple drinks to relax with before going to a concert down the street; two bottled waters ($7 each), two beers (also $7 each) and one bag of cashews ($14) took about 45 minutes to reach the room, and everything was delivered room temperature. The soap/shampoo selection felt like it was purchased at dollar general, definitely no high end amenities at this property despite the high end prices. We found the majority of the staff to be rude and dismissive (but to be fair they also seemed very understaffed and overworked). Pay for 5 star and get 2 star here.

The staff is always so friendly and nice. They even upgraded us to a corner penthouse suite for our stay! Highly recommend.

Valet parking staff really don’t want to work,the receptionist at the front desk need a lot more training!

We’ve stayed at MGM Grand Detroit in the past and have always enjoyed it. Because it’s a casino there are lots of things to do without ever leaving the property. Unfortunately COVID has had a negative impact on certain things, like room service and some of the restaurants (i.e. the buffet) are closed. That’s understandable though, and I don’t fault MGM for that. What I did find disappointing was the room. First off, it was too warm. We had the thermostat turned as low as it could go but it just never cooled down. Several light fixtures were either burned out or completely missing. The pillows on the bed were flat and small (king size beds should have king size pillows, sorry). Overall, it’s clear that the hotel rooms are due for a refresh. For the price we paid for the room it didn’t meet our expectations this time around.
